Music as Therapy
Music has been used for hundreds of years to treat illnesses and restore harmony between the mind and body. Soothing music has a unique connection to our emotions and that is why it can be used as an extremely effective stress management tool. When I am listening to music to help relieve stress I first find a quiet comfortable place, and second pick music suitable to my mood. Everyone is different, so different music affect people differently, and that's why it is important to find the right kind of music for you. I personally like instrumental calming music, or music filled with sounds from nature. When listening it is important to drop everything at the door, quiet your mind, and not let any outside distractions disrupt your listening. If you set aside time for yourself everyday you will see the difference it makes in your life. I have noticed that I am more even keeled, more productive, and LESS STRESSED! Paul Collier is one of my favorite artists to listen to, his songs can be found on YouTube. Please check out some of the links to Paul's music below....

Ditto Alycia. I love music but find my mood determines the music I listen to and the task at hand determines the music I choose. The music I have on also determines my success in completing a project and the quality, time and frustration level encountered. Studies, cleaning, getting ready for work and dinner usually all require a different type of music and then that depends on the weather my mood and what life is handing out. Great article.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the both of you. When I am stressed out or need to relax and get my mind off things, music always helps me do this. Different types of music depending on how I am feeling is also important to me- I certaintly need s certain type of music for my mood, or else I'd rather listen to nothing at all! I seem to always be able to listen to Breaking Benjamin, maybe it's just me, but it seems that always destresses me. Sometime I will even go for a drive just so I can pop in a CD of what I want and get away for a little bit.
ReplyDeleteMusic is my favorite aspect of life in general. It has the ability to take me to a different world where the type of music builds the landscape I live in. Music is definately the best way for me to relieve stress and be lifted to a better state of mind. I've been playing drums for most of my life and there is nothing else that takes away the stress in my life like playing some music.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many types of music to fit whatever mood you're or the different things you do throughout your week. I grew up listening to country music but I listen to metal when I'm working out in the gym. It's fun to have that much diversity at your fingertips.
ReplyDeleteI don't' know what i would do with out music or my ipod. I listen to music everyday, and it alwys varies in my moods. I have never tried using calming music like in the link provided, but i think it would be helpful to try on those stressful days.
